Lifestyle Tracking is a mobile app that assists those living with diabetes to make the best choices for their health.

Patients with diabetes find it difficult to maintain their routine care while also noting events that may lead to further health related situations. Not being able to efficiently track one's lifestyle while living with diabetes was something of concern.

Research Goals:

  1. Identifying pain points with existing tracking apps

  2. Understand how those of different lifestyles are dealing with their diabetes

Types of research conducted:

  1. In-person interviews

  2. Observational studies

Key Findings:

My team worked very closely with the JDRF Rochester, NY Chapter. We were able to interview over 80 people who were currently living with or taking care of someone who has diabetes. We found users would use multiple apps to store different types of data. Bouncing from one app to the other caused confusion and frustration. Overall, the two major touch points focused on documenting two important things: recording events and making the process of adding a meal faster. We found many people (not just those with diabetes) eventually gave up recording their food because of the copious amount of steps needed.

Thought Process

In order to live their best and fulfilling lives, it was important to create a user-oriented system that would support a healthier lifestyle. Those living with diabetes are focused on long term goals and therefore need a way to track their way of life.

This meant creating interactions within the mobile app to keep the user engaged such as creating health notifications with suggestions, snapping a photo of their meal instead of logging it ingredient by ingredient, and being able to send reports to their healthcare provider when needed.
